Created during Miss Flighty’s Amaro Craze of 2005, a time when when I was know to declare, “if I don’t have Campari (behind the bar) I will just go home.” At the time the Negroni the cocktail of the hour, but my love for whiskey compelled me to search for another drink with my beloved red aperitif. After much searching I discovered the Old Pal which was the inspiration for the Belmar Cocktail. Ramazzotti is a unique Amaro that I was not familiar with, there are a number of new varieties available today–Amaro Nonino or Averna for example– that would make a satisfying substitute.
